Established in 1993 and totalling 5ha under vine Barringwood Vineyard is nestled into the North face of a rolling hill overlooking the Don River Valley in the Central North of Tasmania. Rising to an elevation of 276m, our long mild growing season is perfectly suited to creating premium quality sparkling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay as well as the more exotic Schönburger.
The vineyard purchased by Neville & Vanessa Bagot in 2012 with a view to it being a charming distraction from their busy Sydney lives. The distraction soon became an obsession, particularly for Vanessa who has truly found her passion, indeed she is never happier than when she is hand pruning in the dead of winter.
Our site is one of the latest ripening in Tasmania giving our wines delicacy, elegance and immense complexity. Success on a climatically marginal site is dependent on supreme diligence and attention to detail, and not a little bit of luck from time to time.
From the very first vintages Barringwood wines have gained acclaim and continue to do so. The vineyard has been awarded 5 stars by James Halliday for each of the past 4 years and in a recent Winestate Magazine Tasmanian regional tasting our Pinot Gris, Mill Block Pinot Noir and Schonburger where all the highest rated wines in their categories. The Schonburger went on the win 2015 Winestate Wine of the Year in the alternative whites category.
The next stage in the Barringwood journey will see the development of a second larger scale vineyard in Evandale, just south of Launceston, 33ha of cool climate varieties will be planted in 2016.
